Early Neurological Stimulation With Puppies
"Breeding Better Dogs"
We start early neurological stimulation, BioSensor Training, starting when the puppies are 3 days old. BioSensor training techniques are done everyday with the puppies until the day they go home and increases in length each week. In addition to physical and social training, we also expose them to several sounds daily. Certain sounds like a doorbell, fireworks, gun shots, other dogs barking, other animal sounds, children screaming, storms, etc., can lead to nervousness and anxiety in adult dogs. Our goal is the more we can expose our puppies to those potential high anxiety items, the less they will notice or be bothered by them.
The BioSensor training progresses each week as the puppies get older. It starts off exposing them to sounds and basic tactile techniques. Those physical things including having puppies on their back, getting use to having someone play with their ears and paws, and using a Q-tip between their toes. When puppies are 2 weeks old we start introducing the clippers, vibrating toothbrush, and dremel(nail grinder). Those tools aren't used directly on the puppies, but rather lightly against them. This is done so the puppies slowly get use to the sound and vibration of the items before they are used at 4 weeks of age. After 4 weeks of age the puppies are on the grooming table every day. The daily exposure to clippers, scissor, dremel, and forced dryer noise decreases the likelihood of anxiety with those items as they get older.
Around 4 weeks of age we start taking the puppies for wheelbarrow, wagon, or bicycle trailer rides. This is done in short increments to get them slowly use to movements and decrease the likelihood of carsickness.
